Roy Dames (1953) is well known for his films Wrong Fellows (2010) and Williams Canteen (2006). Dames has been a documentary producer since 1986. After 1993 he also became active as a director and since 2009 he has focused on exclusively directing documentaries. By now he has worked together with almost all Dutch public broadcasters, the Commercial Broadcasters SBS6 and Net 5, but also with Foreign Broadcasters such as BBC, SDR (Germany) and ORF (Austria).
Social issues are at the heart of the documentaries of Roy Dames and they are characterized by a human-interest approach. In his documentaries, he tries to draw attention to the things that aren’t usually shown or discussed. He often succeeds because of the long period in which he follows the main characters.
